Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama were arrested on Monday September 11th over hate speech.
The two politicians were detained at Pangani Police Station before being taken to Milimani courts today to answer to incitement charges.
The framing of the charge against Muthama makes you wonder whether the statement said by the veteran politician could really incite anyone to violence.
“On the 10th day of September, 2017 at Isinya Town of Isinya Sub County withing Kajiado County, without lawful excuse uttered words to wit “Mimi nataka kumwambia na naalika Uhuru Kenyatta na Mheshimiwa Ruto pale Uhuru Park bila askari na mimi na Orengo tuvae gloves tukutane Uhuru Park tuonyeshe kilicho nyoa kanga manyoya; unatisha Raila nani?” which words indicated that it might have been desirable to engage on a physical fight which was calculated to bring death or physical injury to persons,” the Johnson Muthama’s charge read.
