Tanasha Donna has announced the suspension of her new song release, initially scheduled for Friday, due to the ongoing unrest in the country following clashes between police and protesters opposing the 2024 Finance Bill.
In a heartfelt message shared through her Instagram story, Tanasha Donna informed her fans that she had been fully prepared to launch her new single but decided to halt the release to honor those who lost their lives in the protests.
“My first single from my project was supposed to come out today, but we are mourning the deaths of our young heroes, until later,” Donna stated.
The singer expressed uncertainty about the new release date, leaving her fans in anticipation.
Riots have erupted in various parts of the country, particularly in Nairobi and its suburbs, over the past two weeks.
The protests, led predominantly by Gen Z youths, have not cooled down despite president William Ruto’s decision to decline signing Finance Bill 2024 into law.
Despite the protesters being unarmed, reports of excessive police force have surfaced, resulting in the tragic deaths of several young individuals. The use of tear gas, water cannons, and even bullets by law enforcement has been widely condemned.
In response to the escalating violence, the Supreme Court on Friday issued an order prohibiting the police from using excessive force to disperse the protesters, explicitly banning the use of tear gas, water cannons, and bullets.
Tanasha Donna’s decision to suspend her song release underscores the gravity of the situation and reflects the somber mood of the nation as it grapples with the consequences of the ongoing unrest.
As the country mourns its young heroes, the call for peaceful resolution and respect for human rights continues to resonate.
