Statement from UoN on Students Disturbances Over SONU Elections

  1. That the University Management regrets  the disturbances caused by a section of students at the Main Campus since Saturday, April 2, 2016 following the announcement of SONU election results and subsequent swearing in of new officials.
  1. The University would like to assure the general public and the University community, including students, parents and guardians, that the prevailing situation is generally peaceful and calm in all the campuses except the Main Campus where a few isolated incidents have occurred.
  1. The University would like to encourage the contestants who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the just concluded SONU elections to file their petitions before the Independent Electoral Petitions Panel, 2016 on or before Wednesday, April 6, 2016 by 5.00 p.m. as provided for in the SONU Constitution.
  1. The University would like to further caution students against acts of lawlessness.  Students or persons engaging in criminal acts shall be held individually responsible for their actions.
  1. All academic programmes continue to run normally.
  1. All the 14 students who suffered   injuries during the Saturday, April 2, 2016 stampede were treated for soft tissue injuries and discharged.
