The Kenyan debate about playing Kenyan content that was instigated by Khaligraph Jones when he was still in Nigeria has made people react differently and it has also caused a back and forth of comedian, host and radio presenter, Jalang’o and Naiboi and Khaligraph Jones speaking their opinion on the matter.
Jalang’o has since explained where he was coming from with his sentiments on the matter and iterated that he was coming from a place of love and concern rather than a place of malice like most people thought.

One social media influencer, Marcus wrote an open letter to the media owner, DJs, media personalities, and radio presenters asking them to start playing local content already since it has been long overdue.
“…Stop acting like demigods and promote the local Music – there are soo many artists in Kenya only that you rate them at the same level with Khaligraph , Timmy, Otile , Arrow Bwoy and the “Celebs”” he said in part.

Marcus just like any other Kenyan wants our local content to be played on high rotation so that our artistes can enjoy the life that comes with being a successful artiste in the music industry just like Diamond Platnumz and other accomplished musicians every where.
Marcus stresses the fact that there are good quality music out there other than ‘Lamba Lolo’ that deserves high rotation on our local media station but the DJs, radio presenters, TV presenters and the entire Kenyan online community complain that Kenya doesn’t have quality content.
“Truth Be told – The Kenyan Radio Presenters, TV Presenters , Dj’s and entire online community has failed the Local Artists – They are complaining of no content songs being produced by the Artsts yet they give airplay to nonsense songs like Lamba lolo and others – They entertain trash songs and ignore good music being dropped at their studios and emails all the time yet they download TZ and Naija Songs and flood our airwaves with them.” he added.
Here is the full open letter as released by Marcus via Instagram.
He wrote on social media: “Dear Radio Presenters and Media owners, The Kenyan Music Debate has been ongoing for some time and it has reached a point that some “radio” presenters are chest thumbing and throwing shade at the LEGIT protests being done by the KEnyan Artists.
Truth Be told – The Kenyan Radio Presenters, TV Presenters , Dj’s and entire online community has failed the Local Artists – They are complaining of no content songs being produced by the Artsts yet they give airplay to nonsense songs like Lamba lolo and others – They entertain trash songs and ignore good music being dropped at their studios and emails all the time yet they download TZ and Naija Songs and flood our airwaves with them.
Stop acting like demigods and promote the local Music – there are soo many artists in Kenya only that you rate them at the same level with Khaligraph , Timmy, Otile , Arrow Bwoy and the “Celebs” . You dont play their songs because they are not CELEBS .. WAKANDA NONSENSE IS THAT? Yet you guys are saying there are no good content songs. How??? Sample the music you receive in your emails, studios, whatsapp and evrn from youtube – you are making our artists struggle soo much yet you guys are in a position to make someone say it’s my music which has done all this.
Bottomline – stop this hypocrisy and play KEnyan Music – Huko TZ na Naija hamjulikani and they dont play our music – kama hamchezi local music mkae… Time yenyu ya kutoka itafika na wenye wataingia watapromote music ya Kenya. Time for Change is NOW!!!!!! #PlayKenyanMusic #KenyanMusic”
