Can a musician identify themselves as secular artiste and still release gospel song, and vice verse? Well this has been a trend of late as witnessed with the likes of Willy Paul, and now Nadia Mukami has also done it.

Nadia Mukami sparked speculations that she had switched from secular to gospel music when she dropped a thanksgiving song dubbed ‘Maombi’.

The secular songbird has however come out to stress that she has not switched to gospel.  She explained that she released a gospel song because even secular musicians have a relationship with God.

“It’s totally a no. I knew that people would take it like that because I have been asked that question a million times but no. As secular artistes, sometimes we even pray a lot. We do secular music because it’s business, its passion. Music is very universal, you’re singing about love even in the bible there’s love so I feel like people confuse it. So for me, ‘Maombi’ just a thanksgiving song to God for what he’s done in my life and to inspire someone else to give thanks,” Nadia Mukami explained.

Mukami further disclosed that the gospel song she released is very personal to her as she wrote it when she was at a low point in her life.

“This is very personal to me. I did this song at a time I was really broke, for many months. That same day that I wrote this song, I got called to be on Coke Studio. So it’s a song that is very personal to me just thanking God for what I have been through and not focusing on the negative.”
