Jamaican American rapper and singer Sean Kingston has opted not to contest extradition in a California court, agreeing to be transferred to Florida to face charges of fraud alongside his mother, Janice Turner.
The charges against them involve alleged crimes totaling more than a million dollars.
The 34-year-old musician, known for hits like “Beautiful Girls” and collaborations with artists such as Justin Bieber, did not appear publicly in court but signed documents waiving extradition hearings, as confirmed by officials from the San Bernardino courts and sheriff’s department.
Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, a military training base in California, while Turner was apprehended during a SWAT team raid on Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
According to arrest warrants from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston and Turner are accused of conducting organized schemes to defraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related crimes.
The warrants detail allegations of theft involving money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture.
The lawyer representing Kingston and his mother, Robert Rosenblatt, previously stated their intention to waive extradition, expressing confidence in addressing the charges in a Florida court.
The warrants outline a series of alleged thefts, including sums from various financial institutions and purchases such as jewelry and vehicles, with specific amounts not disclosed.
Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was already on probation for trafficking stolen property at the time of his arrest.
His mother, Janice Turner, had previously pleaded guilty to bank fraud in 2006, resulting in a prison sentence of nearly 1.5 years, according to federal court records.
