Saumu Mbuvi addresses claims that her father Mike Sonko is a drug trafficker

Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has in the past been accused of having a hand in the drug business in Kenya. Sonko’s daughter Saumu Mbuvi has since addressed those allegations.

Speaking during an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo, Saumu said that she is deeply hurt by allegations that her dad is a drug trafficker.

Saumu noted that she gets affected by bad things people associate her father with. She attributed her father’s success to hard work and determination.

“It does affect me because they don’t know what kind of a person my dad is. My dad helps a lot in this country. Saying that he is a thief hurts me,”

Speaking on the prospects of joining politics, Saumu Mbuvi said that said her priorities at the moment was on empowering girls.

“Right now I can’t compete for leadership because I want to empower young girls. I don’t want to rush into politics,” said Saumu.

Saumu has vied for an elective seat before, though not on the national stage. She was a students’ leader at Jomo Kenyatta University where she studied.
