Saigulu Ololosereka was held liable on his own guilty verdict for marrying off a girl aged 9, in Entasekera district, Narok South in 2019.
An age examination of the minor revealed that she is currently just 12 years old.
Saigulu Ololosereka, told Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Phyllis Shinyanda, and the court that the girl’s father, Senteu Ole Mareu, had given him the child for matrimony.
Pilot Khaemba, a Narok Children’s officer, told the court that the marriage was discovered after the minor, now 12 years old, experienced issues after delivery and was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital to receive treatment.
The minor, who was taken to the hospital by her old husband, endured a cesarean delivery but unfortunately gave birth to a stillborn child, according to the court.
Given the gravity of the situation, the court clerk was ordered to re-read the accusations to the old man in Maasai language so he best understood, while also warning him of the harsh sentence that comes with the committed offense.
Ololosereka, unsurprisingly, insisted that the claims were accurate and maintained the young girl is his wife, whom he cherishes.
The prosecution also gave a warrant for the girl’s parents’ arrest for allegedly forcing the kid into an early marriage.
