Rufftone, known by his real name Smith Mwatia, is now among popular celebrities jostling for political seats in the forthcoming 2022 general election.
The gospel singer has been for a long time rubbing shoulders with top political brass in the country including President Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy president William Ruto, who both have a soft spot for him.

Rufftone is now considering to run for a political seat himself. In a recent interview with Word Is, the gospel star revealed that he was under pressure to vie in 2022 general election.
Rufftone disclosed that he had received numerous invites from the electorates to contest for a political seat in Nairobi and his rural home in Western Kenya.
“I’m really under pressure to vie in the coming elections. I have been praying a lot and I have come up with a decision to go for it,” said Rufftone.
The singer however stated that he will not be vying for a parliamentary seat, he said that he will announce the exact seat he is interested in at a later date.
“I will, however, not be vying for MP. In the near future I will announce the position, constituency and the political party that I am in,” said Rufftone.
Rufftone further disclosed that after spending 20 years in the gospel music industry, he discovered that there are things he could only change if he runs for a political seat.
