Robert Alai, who is also the sitting MCA for the Kileleshwa ward, was kicked out of the Nairobi County Assembly on Thursday May 4, 2023.

Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi later announced that Alai would be suspended for four sittings.

His decision came after the Kileleshwa MCA was ejected from the chamber for gross misconduct.

Alai is alleged to have abused the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Peter Imwatok Jateso, who is also the Makongeni ward MCA.

It is not clear what Alai told the Makongeni ward MCA but he was seen crying moments later during a session at the Nairobi County Assembly where the incident happened.

The Speaker ordered Imwatok to be escorted out to of the chamber to calm down after Alai was ejected from the House.

Alai’s suspension comes as the Nairobi County Assembly breaks for a long recess and is expected to reconvene on 6 June.

“The suspended member shall be admitted to the assembly on 13 June 2023,” the speaker ruled.

While serving his suspension, the member will not be allowed to enter the Assembly premises or attend committee meetings.
