Shukid outdid himself on this one, hands down without a shadow of doubt. He goes ham on every record save for his introductory single off the EP.
From the warm up intro track, Shukid gets us prepared for what’s coming next in the next two tracks ‘2K18’ and ‘And 1’ which features Monte Karlo.
The single ‘2K18’ sounds like something South African rap crew The Wrecking Crew would jump on it let’s say Zoocci Coke Dope(though he’s not exlusively a member) and Flame and A-Reece. Shukid really has bars upon bars on that ‘2K18’ record and that’s why am saying that the rapper is taking Kenyan rap to the next level and the way he switches temp 2 minutes in the single proves how versatile he can be, I mean he can easily write his hook and maybe it’s me but I have a feeling that he has two songs embedded in that record.
‘And 1’ on the other hand is a some record that you have to listen to word by word because he makes sense in every spit he delivers. Shukid somewhat sound like A-Reece but only better and if there’s a record that could make you a bonafide Shukid’s fan is that ‘And 1’ single. He goes out and him fusing the Carrebean lingo in the hook is something wanting that not most artistes can pull off and Shukid makes it looks so easy. Such a talent Shukid is and ‘Pre-Season Ticket’ EP is a must have EP for everybody even if you are not a fan, it will change your perception to Kenyan music and am not talking about the rap genre alone.
If I were rating the EP out of ten I would gladly and easily give it a clean eight no doubt because it’s something out of the box, something unexpected and his bars makes sense and poetic and they are not rumblings or stunting verses that we are by now accustomed to with the trap era picking pace in the mainstream media.
Gwan Bigup yourself Shukid on this project.
Have a listen to the EP ‘Pre-Season Ticket’ below, if this isn’t something out of the box, then I don’t know what is.
