Kikuyu Council of Elders has told President Uhuru Kenyatta not to let go his top political adviser Nancy Gitau.

The elders said Gitau had great experience having served under former president Mwai Kibaki.

Nancy Gitau resigned on Monday, July 18, apparently due to frustrations and infighting in the Jubilee coalition.

The Kikuyu Council of Elders has told President Uhuru Kenyatta not to accept the resignation of political adviser Nancy Gitau.

The council chairman Wachira Kiago told The Star that they had arrived at the decision following a meeting on Monday, July 25.

According to the elders, Nacy Gitau is a great asset to Uhuru and the Jubilee administration having worked in the same position in Mwai Kibaki’s government.

Nancy Gitau tendered her resignation letter on Monday, July 18, apparently due to frustrations and infighting in the Jubilee coalition.

Sources who spoke to The Standard newspaper said that senior State House officials involved in a tug of war between Uhuru’s TNA and his deputy William Ruto’s URP parties were the sole reason behind Gitau’s resignation.

Allies of Ruto are said to have been calling for her sacking after she was implicated in the recruitment of witnesses to fix the deputy president at the International Criminal Court.

“On several occasions, they have tried to block her from accessing President Uhuru Kenyatta because they felt that her stay was no longer justifiable,” The Standard published on Friday, July 22.

This led to the creation of two factions in the Jubilee coalition; pro-Gitau and anti-Gitau. TNA officials rallied behind her while those from URP did not.

Her frustrations saw her excluded from critical political decisions such as the Jubilee Party merger plans.

It is also reported that the wrangles were some of the reasons why her office was moved from State House to Harambee House in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
