Speaking on Friday at a funeral in Uyoma, Rarieda MP, Nicholas Gumbo, who is also the Chairman of National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, faulted the residents of Siaya County for failing to register as voters in good numbers yet they were always complaining that the election had been stolen, yet majority of them do not vote.
The Rarieda MP challenged the locals to register as voters saying that the process of winning an election starts by people registering to vote.
“We know the problem but don’t want to address it…..The problem is that we don’t register as voters. Period!” Gumbo said.
Gumbo cited the scarcity of eligible voters in various constituencies deemed Opposition strongholds within Siaya County, among them; Alego Usonga, Rarieda, Bondo, Ugunja and Ugenya – all of which sum up to more than 300,000 unregistered voters.
“In Alego Usonga 83,000 have not registered while in Gem we have 60,000 and Ugenya and Ugunja we have 45,000 and 40,000….Then you say you want Raila to be President – with which numbers?” The MP said.
CORD leader Raila Odinga is yet to come clean on whether he would be contesting the Presidential seat in the forthcoming 2017 elections.
Last week the Opposition unveiled a strategy aimed at ensuring that the 2017 General Election is a free, fair and victorious process.
After a strategic meeting chaired by Odinga, ODM laid down a foundation on which a parallel tallying centre, set to run concurrently to that of the IEBC, would be established in order to compare the results.
