Just after the Jubilee government lost Malindi parliamentary by-election, the security detail attached to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, were withdrawn.
What followed next was the government’s battle with Governor Joho over his personal firearm that he legally acquired and got license for.
The government opened up another battlefront with Cord leaders from the Coast by demanding that they record statements at Malindi CID office for their involvement in the chaos witnessed during Malindi by-election.
The first thing Raila Odinga did when he returned from his trip to South Africa was to file a petition at Malindi High Court against continued state harassment and victimization of ODM elected leaders at the Coast.

IN DEFENCE OF THE COAST
Today, as the Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement party, I filed a petition at the Malindi High Court against continued state harassment and victimization of ODM elected leaders at the Coast.
This action has been prompted by the threats, intimidation and harassment my party members have been subjected to by security agencies following our win in the Malindi By Election.
Justice Said Chitembe granted our prayers barring any further persecution by agents of the Jubilee Administration.
