President Uhuru Kenyatta was received by thousands of supporters on Thursday morning when he arrived in Kisumu.
Uhuru’s visit to Kisumu comes a day after the launch of BBI report in the neighboring Kisii town. The president arrived in Kisumu in the early morning hours.
Thousands of supporters meanwhile were left hanging as they were expecting Uhuru to land at the Kisumu International Airport.
The plane carrying the head of state however landed at Kisumu port.
The president inspected the Ksh 3 billion refurbished port of Kisumu before his motorcade proceeded to the Kisumu Yacht Club for a meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga and other Luo Nyanza leaders.
Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong’o, Siaya’s Cornel Rasanga, Migori’s Okoth Obado, and Homa Bay’s Cyprian Awiti were among senior leaders who were in the meeting with Uhuru and Raila. Several MPs from the region also attended the meeting.
The media was locked out of the meeting, but it is widely believed BBI was among the agenda discussed.
The president and Raila are at the forefront asking Kenyans to support BBI recommendations.
Thousands of residents lined up along the major streets in Kisumu to greet President Uhuru as he was heading to inspect various projects.
The head of state inspected the ongoing construction of the Ksh 1.4 billion Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo ASK Grounds.
The president is also set to inspect Jaramogi Oginga Odinga recreational centre, Uhuru Business Park, and the construction of the Mamboleo-Muhoroni road.
