President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto have led Kenyans who came out in large numbers at Afraha stadium,Nakuru.
They gathered to commemorate the day, fifty three years ago when Kenyans finally took control of their own government from the British rule.
This is the day Kenyans began to govern themselves, the day we took responsibility for our social, economic and political destiny.
So,why did President Uhuru Kenyatta take this years celebrations out of Nairobi,as it has been over years?
He says,’The decision to share the celebrations of our nationhood among the counties is part of the Jubilee administration’s desire to include every Kenyan, in word and in deed.’
After Raila Odinga led his team to State House, Uhuru invited them for 2016 Madaraka day fete but they refused to join them, CORD had arrangements already in place to have their rally at Uhuru Park.
A tweet fired from Cord’s account shortly after the State House meeting indicated that Cord had turned down the invitation from the President.
There were also seats specially booked for CORD principals but they did not show up. Raila Odinga and his team could not make a show because, they were schedule to be at Uhuru Park by around 1-2 pm.
The rally at Uhuru Park is on,shortly after the one at Afraha Stadium was over. Kenyans are now following closely the proceedings at Uhuru Park, just to get a taste of why it was so important to have the rally parallel to Madaraka celebrations.
Thousands of Kenyans came out at Afraha to celebrate this great day of our history.
