Kenya Defense Force (KDF) drone usage in combat is dream come true finally. With increased attacks from terror gangs like the Alshabaab, the KDF is upgrading its arsenal to face these criminals fairly and squarely.
Believable sources say that, they have settled on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) as a weapon of choice and an addition to KDF’s military weaponry collection.
Business Daily reports that Kenya is purchasing a Kes 1 billion drone dubbed ‘ScanEagle’ from the United States for the KDF to combat war against terrorism.
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) reportedly shared the Kenya-US weapons trade.
The drone, ScanEagle will be deployed to carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations against Al Shabaab terrorists.
The drone is fitted with infrared cameras with night vision capabilities which can capture still and moving images and relay them back to control centers.
ScanEagle is usually launched in the air using a catapult launcher and recovered using recovery equipment that snatches the drone in flight.
