President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady, DP Ruto, former President Kibaki, and many governors and many people from Nyeri have attended the burial ceremony of Nyeri Governor, Wahome Gakuru.
He died on November 7 at the Thika Level 5 Hospital after a terrible accident at Kabati area.
The governor was heading to Nairobi to attend a talk show accompanied by his bodyguard and driver when the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the road and hit a rail guard.
before he met his sudden death in a grisly road accident, Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru spent time with his son who is a candidate for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.
Dr. Gakuru hosted Alliance Boys High School KCSE candidates including his son, at his Runda Residence in Nairobi on Monday to encourage them as they sit their final exams.
Gakuru said a prayer for the candidates and wished them the best in their national exams.
“Together with All Candidates Countrywide, I tender best wishes from myself and also on behalf of County Government of Nyeri. May our dear Lord guide you through during this period,” the late Governor posted his message and images on Facebook.
Though he spoke in undertones, the late Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru was a tough-talking man.
After the reign of the late Nderitu Gachagua, a brash governor, Dr Gakuru promised a different kind of leadership.
And he did— mostly projecting an image of a soft-spoken but resilient man.
He had a PhD in Public Policy and Administration from Arizona State University.
He was a lecturer at the School of Business, University of Nairobi since 1994 where he taught to the PhD Level.
He served as a director in Vision 2030 secretariat after previous stints at Equity Bank and National Aids Control Council.
He was married to Catherine Wahome and they had three sons.
He joined active politics in 2013 when he vied for the gubernatorial seat, but lost to the late Nderitu Gachagua.
The late governor will be accorded a state funeral but only close family members and selected dignitaries will be allowed to the burial site.
Wahome Gakuru served as governor for only 79 day after his election on August 8.
Dr Wahome Gakuru, who died aged 51, was a visionary leader and carried the hopes of Nyeri County as their Governor. The soft spoken governor had promised to turn around the county before his life was cut short.
Condolences to the family…RIP sir.
