Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge has caused anger after he told DP Ruto to stop campaigning for 2022,and placing the Kikuyus in a compromising situation. DP Ruto plans to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta after 2017.

Naivasha residents have set ablaze a figurine of Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge after he said people from Central region will not necessarily support Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidency bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The irate protesters were joined by area leaders in demonstrations during which they lashed out at the Senator for his “baseless” sentiments, the Star reports.

Mr. Paul Njoroge said this past weekend that Ruto should not demand Central Kenya’s support in the 2022 general election. He asked the DP to “stop trying to blackmail Kikuyus to automatically support him in 2022”.

Lakeview MCA Simon Wanyoike accused the Senator during the demonstrations saying the he (Njoroge) was overstepping his mandate and told him to perform the role he was nominated to perform.

He said: “We are perturbed by the Senators’ statement and we say categorically that the Kikuyu community is not short of leaders who can speak on its behalf.”

His sentiments were echoed by nominated MCA Esther Njeri who termed the Senator as not being just “an enemy” of the lakeside town but also the country as a whole.

She said: “We know he is working for Cord and its agents. But he will receive the shock of his life when we vote for our president and his deputy come 2017 and 2022.”

Others who took part in the demos include Youth leader Mwangi Muraya who said they had resolved to ban the Senator from carrying out any activities in Naivasha.

“Though this is his home, we have agreed he will not hold any meeting here as we want peace,” said Muraya as quoted by the Star.

Paul Njoroge becomes the second Jubilee official to make such statements against Ruto’s leadership.
