Celebrity preacher Anthony Kahura Mwangi popularly known as Pastor T expressed strong opposition to men paying dowry before marriage.
The preacher, who ministers at Life Church International, said men should negotiate with the parents of all to compromise but not to pay dowry.
“The concept of dowry to buy a woman to be your wife makes a woman worthless because a man will have an idea after paying for the place he owns. This thing will make a woman lack justice for the family, it is not appropriate because women will be compared to any tool to buy at home, why parents should sell their child,” Pastor T said.
The pastor noted that men ask themselves many questions during the meeting to pay dowry to women, for example, if the parents of the girl they want to marry may want 10 goats or cows and an amount of money like Ksh10,000.
He stated that dowry payment is a form of slavery, where a man pays money for a woman to be his wife.
Previously Pastor T said he did not pay his wife’s dowry even after a few in-laws forced him to do so and even sent elders to talk to him.
