Why Otile Brown is a GOAT in the Kenyan music industry today

4 mins read

Otile Brown has done so much in the music industry in Kenya that he’s gradually almost inevitably becoming synonymous with Kenyan music.

The gifted musician who has by far helped put the Kenyan Swahili R&B sound to the African music pedestal has so many accolades thanks to his music and his persona but he never lets it get into his head but his heart as any shrewd musician should.

At the moment, Otile Brown who has worked with Alikiba, Kizz Daniel, Khaligraph Jones, Jovial… the list goes on and on, he’s currently the most subscribed musician in the land and he’s been in the music industry for less than 10 years.

Otile Brown real name Jacob Obunga went commercial in the music scene back in 2015, let that simmer down!

Apart from being the most-streamed Kenyan musician on YouTube, Otile Brown also holds the record of having two of his songs are celebrated on a streaming platform.

The ‘Dusuma’, and ‘Chaguo La Moyo’ are the most-streamed Kenyan songs today with 28 million views and 26 million views respectively.

If fate would have it that Otile Brown was a rapper, he would have rapped about being the most-streamed musician in the country and being the only artiste in Kenyan music history to have 2 back to back hit songs that has a lot of views on YouTube, but because he’s a Swahili-singing R&B artiste, he’s way too humble to blow his horn, he would rather fans argue over that and continue to release hits after hits.

Thanks to Otile’s strategy, he is the only solo act in Kenya who is sure to stand the taste of time, in the next 10 years to come or more, there will still be Otile Brown while other artistes would have fazed off, he’s going to be the Bob Dylan of Kenyan music and probably by then, he would have conquered the African music scene just as he has conquered the Kenyan one.

It goes without saying that Otile Brown is way above the Kenyan music scene but he chooses to stay humble making his major moves in secret.

It’s only a matter of time before Otile Brown becomes an international, celebrated music superstar rubbing shoulders with Aya Nakamura, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Maître Gims(now Gims), Sarkodie, and the likes.

Clearly, evidently, and by far, Otile Brown has reached his plateau in the Kenyan market today and it’s about time he extends his talent to the rest of the world.
