What’s the essence of MPs travelling to Rio to start with? According to Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, the trip is necessary because it is normal for parliament to send a relevant committee to attend such kind of global games.
Parliament will sent a delegation of 12 MPs and parliament staff for a three week stay in Rio for the 2016 Olympics.
The 12-member delegation’s stay in Rio will cost the taxpayer Ksh 8.4 million, they will each get Ksh 50,000 a day as allowance for the three weeks they will be in Rio.
That means at the end of their stay, each politician will be walking home with a cool Ksh 1,050,000 in their pockets.
As if that’s not enough, taxpayers will also foot the legislators’ air ticket which amounts to Ksh 3.12 million.
Senators Martha Wangari, Stewart Madzayo, Muriuki Karue, Isaac Melly and Joy Gwendo will be among the MPs that will fly to Rio.
