NMS apologizes for Pumwani Maternity Hospital delivery saga

The Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS) has officially apologized for the delivery incident that saw a woman delivering her baby outside their gates that has caused an online uproar.

The NMS Director of Health Services, Dr. Josephine Kibaru Mbae in a statement released on Saturday, 19, 2020 apologized for the incident after confirming that the incident took place on Sunday, 13th September which was exactly 2 days after the nurses stopped working over unpaid salaries countrywide.

“We take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to the mother and her child, their family, Nairobians, and our mothers in particular for this most unfortunate incidence.” NMS tweeted attaching their official statement over the incident at Pumwani Hospital.

“We affirm our commitment to improve, ensure the delivery of affordable, accessible, and Quality Health Care.”

Dr. Josephine Kibaru-Mbae, OGW assured Kenyans that the mother and the child are both doing okay and even revealed that they were discharged on 18th September 2020.

“The security guard denied the patient access to the premises in a very unfortunate incident before a nurse from the maternity ward was notified of the occurrence and rushed to the scene to assist in the delivery and admission to the maternity ward.” Dr. Josephine Kibaru Mbae said.

The NMS Director also disclosed that the security team in the hospital has been changed, this is after the security officer who was present on that day stood by and did nothing to assist the mother.

“Going forward, officers from the National Police Service will augment the provision of security at the Pumwani Hospital, Mbagathi Hospital, Mama Lucy Hospital, and Mutuini Hospital in Dagoretti to prevent disruption of services,” she stated.

“We take this opportunity to apologize to all Kenyans and our mothers in particular for this unfortunate incident.”
