Hunger will make people do crazy things. For some people stealing other peoples property is par for the cause when trying to get a hungry stomach sated.
A young man in Eldoret West stole his neighbour’s two chicken. What was amazing is that he blamed the theft on his craving and not himself. Judge, it is not my fault! The chicken made me do it! I was under its spell.
The young man is called Kennedy Kiptanui and he stole the chicken from neighbour Johanna Moi in Kimoning’ village, Eldoret West. The charge sheet indicates that Kiptanui sneaked into the compound in the dead of night and ran away with the two birds. Johanna heard the commotion but thought that it was dogs harrasing the chicken and that they were still safe.
The next morning he found out that two of his chicken were missing and he filed a missing chickens report.( I kid) He reported the matter to a Nyumba Kumi official and hoped to catch the thief. after a detailed search the birds were found in Kiptanui’s home and he was arrested.
In the court, he pleaded guilty but said that he had not yet eaten any of the chicken. The issue with this is that the prosecution could not produce the said evidence- the live chicken. So what happened to those two chicken. These chicken clearly were not meant to be eaten legally but illegally. Questions do abound? The mystery of the missing chickens.
The irony of the whole situation is that Mr. Kiptanui rears chicken so if he really had a desire to eat some chicken he could have killed one of his own birds. Mr. Kiptanui sema ukweli tafadhali!
