Chaos erupted at California Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Nakuru West on Saturday after congregants confronted the pastor over financial accountability and allegations of misconduct.
The rowdy congregants, including church elders and members, exchanged kicks and blows inside the church as women and kids scampered to safety, bringing the service to an abrupt end.
Reports indicate that tension had been building for weeks, with a section of the congregation demanding transparency in church finances.
Others accused the pastor of allegedly sending indecent messages and photos to women via WhatsApp.
The violent altercation reportedly left several people injured.
Local police were called to the scene to restore order as the warring factions refused to back down.
The elder was confronted while delivering a sermon and stabbed on the left side of the chest, leading to his death.
The SDA Church, traditionally known for its disciplined and structured approach to worship and governance, has found itself in the headlines for internal strife in recent months.
Leadership wrangles, financial disputes, and allegations of moral failings are quickly eroding the reputation of the church.
