Nairobi County through Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has suspended arrests in Nairobi city.
This directive has been issued by the Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko to help curb the spread of the deadly, coronavirus, COVID-19.
“In line with the directives and guidelines issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta to prevent the spread and exposure to COVID-19, commonly referred to as the Corona Virus which has since been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization(WHO); I have suspended with immediate effect all the arrests by the Nairobi County Government Inspectorate and ENforcement officers until further notice.” the letter signed by Governor Mike Sonko read in part.

“This is informed by the fact that the operations of all courts of law have been suspended, hence suspects cannot be arraigned within 24 hours as provided for in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
“I appeal to all the residents of and visitors to Nairobi to be cooperative and follow the guidelines issued so far, to help keep our city safe from the spread of the virus.”

Mike Sonko who executed the aforementioned order in a private office at Upperhill stressed the purpose of the letter that has since been shared on social media was “to communicate to the relevant departments to facilitate the implementation of the directive with immediate effect.”
