Bobi Wine was arrested and tortured by police on Tuesday November 3rd moments after he registered his candidacy to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in 2021 general election.

Videos circulating online showed the firebrand politician being pulled by police from his car and thrown into a van after submitting his nomination papers to election officials.

“The torture, the beating took place in the police vehicle where I was detained for close to three hours. They sprayed me with tear gas … hot metal was placed in my hands, I have scars all over, my whole body hurts,” said Bobi Wine after he was released.

Police also violently dispersed Bobi Wine’s supporters who were waiting by his home, while remaining heavily deployed in the neighbourhood.

President Museveni’s son Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba  has since vowed to crush Bobi Wine if he keeps ‘fighting’ his father.

Taking to Twitter, Lieut. Gen. Kainerugaba wrote;

“I told you my young brother, that you can NEVER intimidate us. We are much stronger than you can ever imagine to be. If you want to fight we will simply defeat you. We want peace! But if you attempt to fight us then Bring it on!”

Bobi Wine aptly responded to Lieut. Gen. Kainerugaba’s tweet saying that in a free and fair election he would easily trounce his father.

“Only cowards & weak men boast of violence! You should be ashamed. Ours is a non-violent call for action. You know that in a free & fair election, your father the old tyrant, would be no more. This country belongs to Ugandans, not you and your father. You will soon understand that,” Bobi Wine tweeted.
