Tusker Project Fame contestant Msechu adopts one meal a day in fight against obesity

After facing a harrowing near-death experience linked to his weight, Bongo Flava singer Peter Msechu has made a significant lifestyle change, opting for a one-meal-a-day diet.

The former Tusker Project Fame 2010 first runner-up has put his music career on hold to focus entirely on shedding the extra pounds that threatened his health.

In a heartfelt interview with a Tanzanian radio station, Msechu detailed his new eating regimen, revealing that he now consumes just one meal daily at precisely 5 PM.

“My food now doesn’t even fill a small child’s cup. Most people may find this hard to believe, but anyone dealing with being overweight will understand me,” he admitted, highlighting the challenges faced by those in similar situations.

Reflecting on his past eating habits, Msechu candidly recalled how difficult it was for him to control his appetite.

“In the past, it was different. If you invited me to the table with rice and beans, there were only two outcomes; either I got tired of chewing, or I finished all the food because I didn’t know when to stop. I could eat a whole chicken and up to four plates of chips in one sitting,” he confessed.

Msechu’s decision to embark on this weight loss journey came after weighing a staggering 184 kilograms and receiving alarming advice from doctors who warned he was risking his life.

He shared a chilling account of losing consciousness in his home for several days, a wake-up call that forced him to reevaluate his health.

“If I had continued living the old ways, I wouldn’t be alive today. I passed out at home for three days and when I regained consciousness, the doctors informed me my heart was at risk of collapsing due to excess fat around it,” he expressed.

The turning point for Msechu was the insertion of a gastric balloon, a procedure aimed at curbing his appetite.

This initial step helped him shed an impressive 17 kilograms.

As of January 25, 2023, Msechu reported weighing 143 kilograms, and by February, he had further slimmed down to 136 kilograms. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that he still has more weight to lose.

Msechu’s journey illustrates the difficult yet transformative path one can take towards better health, serving as an inspiration to others grappling with similar battles against obesity.
