Constable Ken Kavunga Wali, was one of three men who approached a woman along Muchai Drive in Kilimani and robbed her of her mobile phone and other possessions.
He was carrying a Ceska handgun that was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
After being encircled by enraged bystanders following a heist expedition, the prison warden assigned to the Nairobi West Prison was killed by a storm of punches and kicks.
During the 9 p.m. incident, the victim raised the alarm, bringing outraged bystanders who briefly put their Christmas preparations on hold and chased the bike with sticks.
The deceased and his two accomplices were positioned dangerously on the two – wheeler seat as he accelerated the bike in an uncontrolled rush.
After moving a short distance, the unfortunate bike lost direction and briefly skidded on the road before it crashed to the ground.
While the deceased was surrounded by the merciless mob and pounded with no compassion like a donkey, the goons riding in the back of the car swiftly got themselves together and limped away into the night.
Constable Ken Kavunga Wali was rescued from the angry mob that had surrounded him with an onslaught of blows and kicks by detectives stationed at the Capitol Hill police station who arrived on the scene quickly. The suspect, however, later passed away from his wounds at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The body of the deceased had a Ceska handgun with the serial number KE KPS H1768 and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Additionally, the investigators detained and tow the suspect’s motorcycle, KMFW 321J, to the Capitol Hill police station.
