The internet was flooded with reports about Dan Kiprop Sichei famously known as Sichei Soet, a missing student leader from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), who was supposedly kidnapped.
After going missing for the previous 4 days amid reports of a security officer kidnapping, HAKI Africa has confirmed that Sichei Soet has been located.
As a group, we urge the Technical University of Mombasa – TUM students to remain composed and sober as the police continue their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the man’s abduction, says HAKI Africa.
However, claims that the student was kidnapped that were making the rounds on social media have been refuted by Mombasa county commander Stephen Matu.
Dan Kiprop allegedly said he had received threats as a result of the university leadership election.
“It wasn’t an issue of kidnapping. Nobody should spread untrue rumors that Sichei Soet was kidnapped by police or the administration of the institution. After the stress that followed the election at TUM, Sichei was simply unwinding. He is still alive, and the cops are always watching over him,” Stephen Matu emphasized.
