Mejja is by far one of the sought-after musicians in the country, every record he jumps in has to become an instant hit.
In 2020 alone, thanks to Mejja, over 7 songs became instant hits and one of those songs launched the career of one Azziad Nasenya. Now, that’s the power of Mejja’s getting featured on records.
As a lot of people would imagine, netizens and up-and-coming musicians have always assumed Mejja charges a lot for his features but nothing could be further from the truth.
Mejja real name Mejja Meme Hadhija doesn’t charge for features. Yes, he doesn’t ask for any monetary compensation for him to be a part of your song.
This comes as a shocker I know, but after learning his reasoning behind the decision of not charging for features, you might understand where he’s coming from.
“I never charged anyone to collaborate with me, when someone does something, they do it knowing what they want.” Mejja said, “For me, it’s ideology while others may want fame and women.”
Mejja is an undisputed GOAT, let’s give him his flowers
For starters, Mejja who is now, arguably the king of Genge music in the country, wants(above anything else) the Kenyan music industry to grow exponentially and doesn’t mind being used as a conduit to achieve that dream.
“I want to change the perception, when you send me a song, I must click with you first because when we do a song we are selling feelings and not clothes,” Mejja said in part on his recent interview with NRG radio.
“The reason why I don’t do collaborations with artistes who are known as the so-called superstars is that they don’t like pushing the song you do with them but when I do a collaboration with someone who is not known or an upcoming artiste, they will push the song as it’s supposed to be.” Mejja opened up on the radio show.
Mejja, just like his predecessor, Jua Cali is a humble celebrity who is loved, adored, and respected by everyone within and without the entertainment industry.
Mejja who also chimed in on working with already established musicians and why he doesn’t prefer working with them says he is always ready and willing to do an interview with anyone and everyone who seeks him out because he’s a man for the public made by the people.
“I don’t ignore anyone who calls me, I go for all interviews no matter the person,” he added.
What would the music industry, especially the Gengetone genre be without Mejja? I guess that’s food for thought.
