Mejja has come forward to categorically state that he’s the writer of the entire ‘Utawezana’ hit song that became an anthem in almost every other East African country.
Speaking in a recent interview with a Tanzanian media station, Mejja says that he had already written the song a long time ago having written both verses[man and woman] of the song.
Disclosing in a recent interview, Mejja says that Femi One literally copied what he had already said on the record.
“Saa hii utawezana, hiyo muziki yote nilikuwa nimeandika. Nilikuwa nayo, nilikuwa naimba part ya dem na boy. Yaani Femi One alikuwa anaingia kwa studio anarepeat kitu nimesema, hakuna kitu alifanya. Watu walikuwa wananiingilia nikisema kitambi lakini hawaaelewi mimi mwenyewe ndio nimeandika hivyo,[‘Utawezana’, I wrote that song entirely, I already had it, I was singing the girl’s and the man’s part. Femi One was repeating everything I was saying on the record, she did nothing. People were on my case when I was talking about pot belly but they don’t understand that I wrote it[‘Utawezana’] like that” Mejja said speaking with Simuliza Na Sauti.

For the longest time now, a lot of people were giving props to Femi One for coming with a catchy, rhythmic hook of all times believing that she wrote the hook of the song. Mejja stated that he’s the one who wrote it.
He didn’t speak on whether he wrote the entire verses of Femi One as well but he categorically stated that he’s the brains behind the catchy hook of the song.
Femi One hasn’t made a statement, at least not yet, about Mejja’s claims on the ‘Utawezana’ hit song which is her best performing song in her illustrious career thus far.
Mejja opened up on the interview with no ill-intent or disrespect to Femi One, he was just speaking his own truth.
