Major Nameye Khadija aka Mejja silently took a break from music after his music tour of Australia in July 2022.
Mejja left Kenya for Australia and he performed in major cities including Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney.
The rapper dropped thrilling performances in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide but things didn’t go quite well for him in Sydney.
Mejja suffered voice loss and thus couldn’t perform to the best of his ability. The rapper went to the hospital but still couldn’t get back in voice before the Sydney gig.
He had two options; to either cancel the show or perform with a distorted voice – he chose the latter.
Mejja later on apologized to his fans in Sydney after dropping the subpar performance. He implored them to understand that he lost his voice and that it wasn’t his wish to disappoint them.
“Australia Sydney I WANT TO APOLOGIZE NILIPOTEZA SAUTI NiLiPiga Medication Na Injection Hoping By Night NtaKuwa Poa But IliKaTaa Kurudi IliKuwa Struggle Between Cancelling The Show Ama KuPiga Na Uchungu Which IliKuwa Struggle, Shukran Kwa KuToKea Kwa Wingi AND I APOLOGIZE FROM DEEP INSIDE MY HEART FOR NOT DELIVERING WITH ENERGY COZ OF THE PAIN I WAS FIGHTING SHUKRAN GODBLESS And To All Other Cities I Visited Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane Na Adelaide Shukran For The ENERGY,” he wrote.
When he returned to Kenya, Mejja’s condition got worst.
“As soon as I returned to Kenya, I could hear that the pain was coming and disappearing. Like a normal Kenyan, I went to the pharmacy. I took the medicine that was given to me. Actually, the medicine cured me but not much, after going for about three days, when I get a cold, the problem comes back. I was still ignoring it, ” Mejja said during an interview with Willy M. Tuva.
Mejja revealed that his problem persisted until he decided to go to the hospital.
“In the act of trying to cough, I could see blood stains. That’s when I knew there was a problem and went to the hospital,” he said.
The singer noted that doctors analyzed his throat and discovered that he had a problem that needed to be addressed.
“I was told to stay for about a month without using my voice too much. I was told not to talk too much and not to perform. I was also told to go to treatment for vocal hygiene. Now I am going to treatment,” Mejja said.
The musician pointed out that his problem was caused by drinking too much sugar and not drinking a lot of water.
He also hinted that he feels like his voice has changed as he expresses his deep concern about the situation.
“I ask the fans to pray for me. It affects me psychologically. I love music a lot, it’s everything to me. It really bothers me a lot. I can ask people to pray for me, if you pray, please remember me,” he said.
Mejja also warned Kenyans against drinking sugary drinks and advised them to drink plenty of water.
