US rapper Meek Mill wants to buy property in Ghana taking advantage of the country’s laws that allow African Americans to relocate to the west African nation.
Ghana has a policy that encourages black people in North America, Caribbean and South America to relocate in the country.
The country’s president Nana Akufo-Addo launch the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” to encourage African-Americans to return and reconnect with their roots after their ancestors were forced from their homeland some 400 years ago.
Throughout 2019, Ghana has been hosting a raft of activities, at home and abroad, to encourage the descendants of those who were forcibly sent away to return.
In June 2019, Ghana’s president embarked on a five-nation tour of the Caribbean to promote the initiative.
Ghana also passed Right of Abode law in 2001, the law gives anybody of African ancestry in the Americas the right to stay in Ghana indefinitely.
American rapper Meek Mill is taking advantage of Ghana’s laws as he seeks to buy property in the country.
