Mbogi Genje were among biggest winners at the 2020 Kisima Music and Film Awards gala which was held on December 13th at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi.
Kisima Music Awards was the most prestigious award music gala in Kenya before it collapsed way back in 2013 on its 16th anniversary.
The award was relaunched in 2020 as the Kisima Music and Film Awards after a seven-year hiatus, to recognize players in Africa’s music and film industries.
Mbogi Genje surprised everyone when they beat Sauti Sol to win the much envied Music Group of The Year award at the 2020 Kisima Awards.
The Gengetone group was nominated alongside, Sauti Sol, Diamond (Tanzania), Meddy (Burundi), and Daddy Andre (Uganda).
The group expressed their excitement on the win, thanking all their fans saying that they were their biggest strength and they should continue supporting them.
Mbogi Genje’s member Militan said the Kisima win over Sauti Sol, Diamond, and other music heavyweights has given the group confidence to go after other prestigious awards like BET awards.

“When we saw that we had been nominated alongside these big names we got very excited because this is part of the dream we have been waiting for. This shows that our music is making history. We aim to even get a nomination for the BET Awards in the near future,” Militan said.
Gengetone was birthed in 2019 and has since seen the new music genre that almost everyone is jamming to, become Kenya’s newest love in the music industry.
