Matata’s record producer Pink Zola is dead

Matata is in mourning after their talented record producer, Pink Otshabala Zola real name Mark Mick Okoth’s death.

The late Pink Zola was the man behind numerous hit records in the Gengetone genre like ‘Gengetone Love’, ‘Rivas’, ‘Kata’, ‘Ruracio’, and ‘Bad Manners(Haitaki Hasira)’ by Gwaash.

The 24-year-old Pink Zola succumbed to sickle cell anemia.

Zola’s demise has hit the music industry hard especially since his career as a record producer was just kicking off in the mainstream music business.

Among the many artistes and fans who have been shocked by the news of the sudden passing of one of the most sought-after record producers in the Kenyan music industry, Matata music group is one that has been hit hard with the news.

Matata took to social media to confirm the death of Pink Zola and celebrate his success in the music industry as a music producer.

“It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden death of our producer Mark Mick Okoth aka Pink. He was the producer behind Kata, Ruracio, Gengetone Love, gwash/kanali Haitaki Hasira, Luchi star Rivas and many other songs. Our hearts ache as we try to come to terms with his sudden demise,” Matata wrote in part in their social media post.

Matata is grateful for Pink Zola for believing in their craft long before anyone else did, “A fellow creative who had so much dreams and ambitions. A brother who believed in our craft long before anyone else did and he trusted in our vision.” Matata mourned Pink Zola.

Adding: “A kind voice which was just a phone call away. A fellow creative who had so much dreams and ambitions. A brother who believed in our craft long before anyone else did and he trusted in our vision. Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not finished just when you were in the process of acquiring fruits of your labour you have left us this hurts so much and we know your family is hurting even more. There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts Thanks for the memories. If you wish to support his family during these trying times kindly DM us.”
