Bongo singer Marlaw known for his hit song ‘Bembeleza’ has come out to explain why he disappeared from limelight for 13 years only to resurface now.

Speaking to East Africa TV, Marlaw said that he did not leave music in a bad way, but he left to give space to youngsters to shine.

“Nilipokuwa ilikuwa ni katika kupumzika naeza nikasema. Au kujiandaa hivi kwa sababu unajua nilikuwa nimejihisi nimefanya sana na hadi ikafika muda nikaona kwamba na mimi sasa naweza nikatulia kidogo ili nifanye tena baadae kama itawezekana,” he said.

Marlaw said after looking from afar, he realized that many people were looking up to him and thus gave him the motivation to make a music comeback.

“Nimeandaa vitu vingi sana, unajua muda nilioupata nadhani nimeandaa baadhi ya vitu vizuri, naziita kama zawadi kwa mashabiki wangu. Nimekaa nje tangu mwaka 2010 hadi sasa,” he said.

Throughout the period, Marlaw said that he had been doing his sales business to support himself but said that he was not getting good income as what he was getting from music.

“More than a person, you live hand in hand because you are surrounded by people, family, relatives and friends. So you can’t say you can do it yourself. But I have received a lot of support until now, I feel I am ready to return,” he said.

The artist said that the greatest joy he gets in his life is meeting people who were fans of his many songs and told him that through his songs they met and fell in love and now they are settled and raising a family.

“Zaidi mtu unaishi kwa kushikwa mikono sababu unazungukwa na watu, familia jamaa na marafiki,. Kwa hiyo huwezi ukasema unaweza mwenyewe. Lakini mimi nimepata sapoti kubwa sana mpaka kufikia hapa nahisi niko tayari kurudi,” Marlaw said.
