False scare: Body of man who collapse and died in a matatu tests negative for Covid-19

The death of a man who collapsed and died in a matatu along Mombasa road on Tuesday November 24th was quickly blamed on Covid-19, but science has proved otherwise.

The man’s body, who has since been identified as 57-year-old Leonard Odhiambo, tested negative for coronavirus.

City Mortuary deputy funeral superintendent Patrick Mbugua however said a post-mortem was yet to be carried out to determine the cause of death.

“The man was brought to the mortuary and the Covid-19 test came back negative. We suspect he died of blood pressure issues owing to the sudden manner of his death. However, we are still waiting for the post-mortem results. It was not Covid-19,” said Patrick Mbugua.

The late Odhiambo boarded Embassava Sacco 14-seater matatu at South B bus stop as he was headed to Embakasi.

Odhiambo died near Panari Hotel area, the matatu crew discovered he had died when the matatu stopped for another passenger to get off.

The passenger seated next to late Odhiambo wanted to alight but the deceased did not pave way, the conductor tapped his shoulder thinking he was asleep only to discover that he had died.

‘Men in white’ were quick to rush to the scene where Leonard died in a matatu in a precautionary move that instilled fear among many, making Kenyans to comply with Covid-19 regulations.
