Lupita Nyong’o has expressed her fascination with the heightened nature of the horror genre, which she believes allows audiences to experience and exercise emotions such as fear in a way that daily life often does not permit.

The 41-year-old actress stars in the new film ‘A Quiet Place: Day One,’ a prequel to the previous ‘A Quiet Place’ films, where she plays the lead role in a story about killer aliens that target anyone making noise.

At the movie’s New York City premiere, Lupita shared her thoughts with Variety about the unique appeal of horror.

“This genre helps us exercise emotions that we are otherwise running away from a lot of the time. We don’t get permission to be openly scared in our real life,” she said.

Lupita noted that she keeps returning to horror roles due to the intriguing characters she gets to portray.

“I found myself coming (back) again and again to horror because of the roles that have been offered to me there. There is a heightened nature to horror that makes for a really interesting character to explore,” she explained.

‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ is a spin-off prequel to the original films directed by John Krasinski. Although Krasinski handed over directing duties to Michael Sarnoski for this installment, it was Krasinski’s influence that persuaded Lupita to join the cast.

Her involvement in this film further cements her status as a versatile actress who continues to explore diverse and challenging roles across different genres.
