Larry Madowo is a well-respected journalist who does his shows with skill and incisiveness that is a glee to behold. But he can also be dogged in his search for answers to his normally pinpoint questions. This is a trait that may endear him to viewers but not so much for the guests that he is interviewing.
Yesterday was one such day. He was interviewing Miguna Miguna, the one and only. The man who is the king of controversy, comebacks, and one-liners. The two had gone at each other in a panel that included Senate Majority leader Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr and nominated MP Jenniffer Shamalla. The other two might not well have come, cause the two combatants, one the interviewer and the other the interviewee went at each other with no holds barred.
The debate reached a fever pitch when Madowo and Miguna failed to agree over a statement Miguna made that seemed to be advocating for violence. Miguna had said:
“For a revolution to take place, blood sometimes has to be involved,”
When Madowo interjected, Miguna sharply responded that he had to be allowed to finish making his final remarks without being interrupted. He said:
“Don’t call me back here if you’d keep on interjecting when I am expressing my independent views,”
“If you are not going to answer my questions then don’t come back to my show! We leave it there then.”
Wee! Fire in the studio! Bua! Bua! Bua!
This is not the first time that Larry Madowo has banned a guest from ever coming to his show. He also did this with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, whom he felt was disrespectful to the TV crew and behaved badly on the show. The lesson here for everyone is that Miguna is a meteorite. The object stopping it also gets destroyed in the process. If even Jeff Koinange could not control Miguna on his now cancelled show, no one can. But what do I know anyway?
