KWS Captures Stray Lion That Escaped From Nairobi National Park to Langata, The Rest Could’ve Walked Back

Early today, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) put up a search in Langata area after a pride of six lions and lionesses escaped from Nairobi National Park.

KWS issued a public plea asking nearby residents to be extra vigilant and report to them if they see the stray lions.

Toll free numbers; 0800 597 000 FREE and 0800 221 5566 were put up by KWS to seek public help in tracing the lions.

One lioness was found near Kibera area; KWS officers safely sedated it and transported it back to Nairobi National Park.

The stray lions were last seen around the Lang’ata Hospital, Housing Corporation and Southern Bypass area.

Kenya Wildlife Services spokesman Paul Gatitu told the Star on phone: “As far as we are concerned all is is well… We are grateful to the public”.

He said that for the last three weeks, the service has received reports of lions spotted in the barracks.

“We locked the culvert last week for lions to be captured and brought back to the park,” he said.
