Koffi Olomide was deported from Kenya in July 2016 and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i made sure he never returned to the country until he left office in 2022.

The Congolese Lingala maestro got on the wrong side of Kenyan authorities after he was caught on camera kicking one of his female dancers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

He was arrested outside Citizen TV studios and deported to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

In 2018, former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya tried to fly Koffi to Kenya to perform at the Devolution Conference that was held from April 24 to April 26, 2018.

However, Matiang’i thwarted Oparanya’s efforts to have Koffi perform in Kenya as the Interior Ministry declared him persona non grata.

Fast forward to 2023, Kenya changed administration from Uhuru Kenyatta to William Ruto. Matiang’i left the powerful Interior Ministry he can no longer block Koffi’s entry into the country.

Koffi Olomide alias Mopao Mokonzi will be in Kenya from December 9.

Olomide confirmed this in an exclusive telephone interview with Radio Jambo station, in the morning program of Gidi and Ghost.

Speaking about his return after more than 7 years, Koffi said that he has missed his Kenyan fans who he recognized as ‘my brothers and sisters’ in Kenya.

The artist also thanked the current leadership led by President Ruto for making his career easier.

“It is true that I am coming to Kenya, and my arrival is on December 9 in Nairobi. It is my first show after about 6 years. I would like to say thank you to the new leadership of Kenya which is the president and his office and I would also like to tell my fans, my brothers and sisters that I have Kenya who I miss a lot in Kenya, I say that I will try to be a good friend who I was before,” Koffi Olomide said.
