Kimani landed at the Mathare Mental Hospital after smoking too much bhang which interfered with his sanity.
However, the disgraced journalist has ultimately been released from the mental facility after successful rehabilitation.
Kimani announced he was back at his parents’ home through a tweet on Sunday October 17, 2022.

Kimani had earlier reached out to his fans pleading for help as he accused his parents of abandoning him at Mathare Mental Hospital.
“I appeal to all people who know me to kindly appeal to my parents to let me out of Mathare Hospital. I came here after a brief psychotic episode on the 4th of August and was discharged on the 10th of the same month. My parents have left me here to punish me,” Kimani tweeted.
Kimani’s mother Peris Wanjiku, while responding to her son’s accusations, said that the former Citizen TV journalist was still undergoing counseling sessions with the hospital.
She further revealed that Kimani was suffering due to excess use of marijuana/bhang.
“I raised him in church but when he got to the age of knowing what to do, he decided to go astray and started abusing drugs. He has never even used caffeine since we raised him in SDA,” she painfully narrated.
Wanjiku further disclosed that her only son was taken to Mathare Mental Hospital by his dad in August but after medication he was okay.
However, she expressed fear that her son would run away from their home once they pick him from the hospital.
“The last time I went to pick him, he was rude to me. He told me since I am late to pick him, there is a lady who is coming for him from the hospital and that I should go back home. If he agrees to come home, then we are going for him today.”
In 2021, Kimani shared his struggles with drug addiction.
“Your brain goes out of reality when you are doing drugs. After I smoked weed, I started seeing things out of reality, I developed schizophrenia. The first diagnosis I received was an acute psychotic episode, to show that something huge had happened to me.”
