Kevin Grands has by far established himself as a rapper to be reckoned with, though he has been in the music business for a while now, behind the curtain as a record producer, he has come out as one of the illest emcees Kenya is proud to call their own.
Releasing his debut album ‘One Up’ which is exclusively released under ID37 Music Kevin Grands is surely happy about his achievement so much so that he took to social media to let the whole world know how he is proud for such a milestone in his career.
“Such a victory lap on road to this. My new album is finally out and available on multiple platforms!
One Up! is all about leveling up. I’m better in style, relationships, skill, self awareness, pen game, money, my future, and most importantly, my confidence.
Thank you to everyone who helped me create this body of work.” he said on Instagram patting himself on the back for making the project one of his masterpiece yet.
The ‘One Up’ album which has 10 songs has two features from a rapper who he has worked with for so long, Shukid with Superprodusir is an album that shines even bright illuminating the Kenyan hip hop and rap scene to the next level.
Speaking about his growth in the music industry, Kevin Grands opened up to say that he’s grown enough in confidence to even share a room with your favorite artistes and not feel any pressure whatsoever in any way because he belives he’s one of the great rappers in his generation.
” I got better. My style, skill and pen game are a notch higher; I’m writing better music.
Relationships? Yeah, I’ve learnt to let people in a bit more.
The importance of self awareness has been key; I know a few of my character flaws and just how to not let them take over. I think I’m processing situations a bit better now as well.
My future in this is looking bright. I now have the confidence to be in the same room as your favourites and not feel the pressure. To push my agenda and not doubt myself. To get on stage and entertain, and not feel too anxious. Pursuing perfection contributed my absence; I’m glad I can settle.” he said.
The album is so diverse yet so exquisitely subtle enough to understand everything he’s talking about in the album which in turn resonates to many people in such a way that you can listen to the entire album on loop without even noticing that its repeating itself. This is an album for everybody.
If there was a time a record producer outshone himself as a rapper is on this project, Kevin Grands has most surely cemented himself as one of the greats in the hip hop realm in the country, though his raps are predominantly in English, he still get his points across and delivers them in bars! In such a way that might make Kanye West feel proud to have started the precedence of record producers rapping on their own beats.
