After Kenyans uproar, detectives from the DCI’s Child Protection Unit have detained suspect and his accomplice in response to an offensive video clip that has been making the rounds in several media outlets showing an adult offering scotch whiskey to a 3-year-old kid.
After the horrifying video uploaded by the former governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonko, outraged internet users.
Investigators keeping an eye on online activity, forwarded the footage to undercover sleuths who specialize in finding juvenile criminals.
Using their cutting-edge technologies for tracing online juvenile offenders, the detectives stationed at the DCI Academy in South B conducted a thorough study and revealed the identities of the suspects.
At the early hours of this morning, Edward Ndirangu Muhuka, 22, and Abdulmajid Hassan Arafat, 19, were awoken from their slumber in the Thindigua and Pangani estates, respectively, as part of an undercover operation to arrest the suspects.
Detectives then discovered that the two had gatecrashed a Christmas party where their mutual buddy had been invited, stayed past their time limit, and behaved violently as a result of the level of compassion shown to them.
After taking care of her visitors and retiring early, the mother of the little child was shocked when she was woken at two in the morning by worried friends who had seen the viral footage and had shown it to her.
The two have been charged with failing to protect a kid from drugs and substance addiction in violation of section 24 (1) (a) as read with section 24 (2) of the Children Act No. 29 of 2022; after being arraigned at the Kiambu Law courts, where the first accused pleaded guilty and the second accused did not.
On January 18, 2023, the case will be brought up in order to inform the first accused of the facts and schedule a hearing.
The second suspect, meanwhile, received a Sh200,000 bail and a Sh200,000 surety.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations thanks internet users for alerting them to this case on several occasions and commends the DCI Child protection detectives for their hard work.
