Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has once again been attacked following a message he posted on Facebook regarding demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission by the Opposition.
In the post, Mutua urged the Kenyan Media to give the CORD protests a total blackout following the violence witnessed on Monday.
“The media should give a black out to the primitive anti-IEBC demonstrations. Kenyans are being inconvenienced weekly because of the violent demos. Property is destroyed, businesses looted, motorists stoned, people injured and even death. This is unacceptable.”
“This is my appeal to the media. If you must do it, then we probably need to sit with the media owners to see if we can take the news to 10pm,” Mutua said.
His sentiment’s, however, were not welcomed by many as the film boss was bashed for ‘overstepping’ his mandate as the film’s body boss.
A section of his critics found it absurd to propose a media blackout to demonstrations by the opposition in a multiparty democracy country. Nonetheless, some users supported his proposal arguing that the protests were inciting violence in the country.
