Every Kenyan and every other African around the world should be giving Yema Khalif a standing ovation, a young Kenyan fashion icon who has made a name for himself, starting out from nothing.

Yema Khalif who started out YEMA with his Ethiopian wife Hawi Awash has a rather interesting beginning.

Yema is from Kibera, the largest slums in Africa and if you know anything about living in Eastlands Nairobi area you know how tough it can be to come up from such environments.

Yema Khalif has since made a name for himself after opening up a successful fashion store called YEMA which sells African-inspired apparel in California.

American-based Kenyan from Kibera gives back to his community through fashion

The YEMA store was opened on February 15th, 2020 where they did a soft opening which brought about a lot of powerful people from Hollywood, established musicians, and even top politicians.

So far, Hollywood celebrities Connie Nielsen, Carlos Santana, DJ Eyozi from Washington DC, James president of Levi’s, Kimberly Ellis California Democratic party Chair, Jill Hamer leading Tech CEO in silicon valley, Holli Thier Vice Mayor of Tiburon, DeAnn Biss president of chamber of commerce in Tiburon, Miles former Mayor in San Francisco bay area California have come in and bought YEMA clothing and are rocking them with glee and pride.

Yema Khalif is making history in not only Kenyan history but African history through fashion with his designs being huge hits that everybody from all ages loves to wear.

I am a Pan-Afrikanist to the core and love to let the world know what they are missing in Africa. I might do that through music and some interesting posts from time to time so please bare with me.

I will always be real though, that's a guarantee.
