Kenyan Artist Allegedly Killed In Middle East, Friends Silenced As His Body Is Yet To Land In Kenya
Once again, Kenya is grappling with realities of mysterious death of her son, in a country far away from home, an infamous Middle East nation notorious for murder and maiming of young foreign job seekers.
When Hastings Wakuze who is in his twenties left for Doha,Qatar in April 14,2015 under a recruiting firm Forbes Global Agency in search for greener pastures, little did he know he would fly back to his motherland in a coffin or probably stay longer before his family receives the news of his death.
The news of Hastings’ death broke on 1st August. According to his friends, Hastings’ employers took a week to report to Kenyan embassy. Hastings ,until his death was working in HBK construction as an architect.
According to his roommates, the diseased started vomiting and sweating before he was pronounced dead. Hastings is the third person to die under mysterious circumstances in the company this year.
His body which was meant to land at the airport on Thursday 4th is yet to leave Doha. This has prompted an online campaign dubbed #BringHastingsWakuzeBack to force his agency fly him back home.
Forbes Global Agency reassured them the body would land in Tuesday 9th, one week later, the family is still waiting.
“His body , was meant to land last week on Thursday, Friday. We went with some of the people at the agency on Monday and they said we wait Tuesday . Today is Wednesday. The family is stressed, “ a visibly distraught Veronica Mwaura laments.
They are now calling on the government to probe his death and help them bring home their son.

“Dear Kenyans,we may sometimes have differences but we always stand as one, am now reaching out as the son of the soil in raising an issue that can not be assumed or ignored no more. I lost a friend in Qatar by the name Hastings Wakuze,who died under mysterious circumstances,and until now there is no clear information on what really happened to him. As friends back at home together with the family members, we have so many questions un-answered since the facts gathered tell a different picture all the same. The sad part is some of his colleagues in Qatar who are sons and daughters of the soil,have been silenced and others even intimidated,and none of them wants to come out and stand by what is right,simply because they either fear being deported or missing their jobs, making you wonder how they even sleep at night. You may have come across a post,that is doing rounds, by Veronicah Mwaurareaching out to Kenyans in bringing our son,brother and friend back, a cry that some even gave a deaf ear. But you should ask yourself this, what if it was your sister, brother, a close relative or even a friend,how would you feel??? He did nothing wrong by going out to look for greener pastures, but whatwas done to him is what we demand to know. I know by the time this post does rounds ,their will be forces trying to fight me or even threats coming my way. But one thing is for sure, no weapon formed against me and the people that we stand together in #BringHastingsWakuzeBack shall prosper. Be it the mainstream media or government offices to pressure those who now claim to be “free thinkers” to act. The body was supposed to have landed on Friday, but until now nothing has happened,no report,no results of the autopsy nothing we are in a daze with our minds tossing in the ocean on what next. We haven’t lost hope yet since we know our brother will come back home,the family just wants to bury their son,and not to hear stories and cooked theories. we are not mad to say what it is,everything can be backed up.
