It’s totally hilarious that a monkey was responsible for the three hour national blackout that happened yesterday.
“Dear Customer, Kenya Power has lost generation at Gitaru hydro plant which has caused a power outage. Efforts to restore supply are currently underway.” Kenya Power sent the message to Kenyans following the blackout.
After power was restored, Kenya Power revealed what caused the outage. They said a monkey was what caused the nationwide blackout.
In statement released, Kenya Power said that a monkey climbed onto the roof of the Gitaru Power Station in central Kenya and fell onto a transformer, tripping it.
The company said this caused other machines in the station to trip, resulting in the loss of 180MW from the plant, triggering a national blackout.
The fate of the monkey is not known as Kenya Power didn’t reveal what happened to it.
