Kamene Goro hosted her last show on Kiss FM on January 27, 2023, after three years of working at the popular radio station. She joined Kiss FM on June 14, 2019, together with Andrew Kibe having been poached from NRG Radio.
However, Kamene’s stay at Kiss FM came to an end after top management grew tired of her behaviour and saw no value in retaining her while she was being paid over Ksh500,000 a month.
Sources at Lion’s Place, the headquarters of Radio Africa, say the bosses had grown tired of Kamene’s habit of regular absenteeism with insubstantial excuses
“Kamene made a regular habit of not showing up to work, and she could give all manner of excuses most of the time, saying she was sick, and later she would upload photos and videos on social media of someone in a totally different situation,” a source told Nation.
For a while, Kamene’s habit went unnoticed by the top bosses but she was eventually discovered.
“When the top management took notice, that caused friction between her and them. There was actually a disciplinary panel set up to look into her conduct, and colleagues she closely worked with said she would text them at 6 AM, an hour to the start of her show, saying she won’t make it to work and request someone to hold her brief,” the source added.
Kiss FM management ultimately made the decision to axe Kamene when her breakfast show started recording a consistent decline in the rating.
According to Radio Africa’s management, Kamene was not showing efforts to either improve on her show or put to an end her regular absenteeism.
“The ratings had dipped over time compared to when she first joined the station and hence the show wasn’t attracting advertisement and based on her huge salary, it was deemed fit to let her contract run out and hire someone else,” the source said.
As Kamene exit, the company has sought an equally influential host, Sheila Kwamboka alias Kwambox who will be joining the team in February.
According to the Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Martin Khafafa, Kwamboka was a great addition to the team, following her over 20 years of experience in the media industry.
“Her addition will give listeners a chance to enjoy bigger, better, more engaging radio,” he said.
